During its history, USC has made unparalleled gains in academic standing and reputation. USC has positioned its place as a proud leader in higher education to also be a catalyst for the economy of Los Angeles. USC's vision for its future emphasizes its role and mission in the development of human beings and society as a whole through the cultivation and enrichment of the human mind and spirit and its desire to be a major force in addressing critical issues facing society and creating new societal opportunities.

Looking ahead, recently its Trustees adopted University Park Campus Master Plan 2030 http://www.usc.edu/community/upcmasterplan/ to help guide as much as 5 million net new SF of potential future building development in a manner that provides sufficient new academic, housing, retail, recreation and campus life facilities that promotes 24/7 living/learning. Major goals guiding this planning process include:

  • To accommodate the physical growth of the campus in support of USC’s role and mission.
  • To create a safe, attractive, sustainable, residential campus and neighboring urban community.
  • To extend and enhance the park-like feel of the University Park campus.
  • To act as a catalyst for public and private non-university investment in the surrounding communities, including non-university-owned residential, commercial and open spaces.
  • To value the rich architectural heritage of the campus and surrounding communities.
  • To improve a comprehensive campus and public street circulation system serving pedestrians, bikes and vehicles.
  • To improve resources and management of parking and transportation systems.

This planning effort was an inclusive and comprehensive multi-year analysis designed to engage and articulate from many perspectives the ways in which the University Park Campus can be enhanced, extended and better utilized over the next twenty years. Working closely with campus constituents and neighbors in respectful partnership, the 2030 Master Plan vision lays out a flexible planning framework. It proposes to use precious land resources and investments over time to plan for campus growth in a manner that connects with, and embraces its vital surrounding community to create safe, attractive and vibrant neighborhoods that promote interaction and shared positive experiences. The vision for the 2030 Master Plan for the University Park Campus is directed toward building attractive and livable neighborhoods in the long term.
